Shrimps or Prawns (commonly called Crayfish across Nigeria and some neighbouring Africans) have different species but only few are found in the fish markets.
The two names shrimp and prawn are common names, not scientific names. They are vernacular or colloquial terms which lack the formal definition of scientific terms. There is no reason to avoid using the terms shrimp or prawn when convenient, but it is important not to confuse them with the names or relationships of actual taxa (singular is taxon).
Banana Shrimp : This is the most common, harvest and available in the fish market places across Nigeria. It is usually sun-dry or smoked and the most consumed by majority.
Cherry Shrimp : Usually red in color, well harvest in Korea but scarcely found in Nigeria fish market places. It is rich in protein and minerals, the exoskeleton is usually stronger than that of banana shrimp.
